About the Artist

Since I have been getting a few e-mails from people asking me why I draw and some not so personal information about myself, I figured I'd make this page here.
Location: Waterville, ME

Eye color: brown

Kids? Yes, two boys, aged 3years and 6 months respectively.
College: Yes, graduated in 2002 with a BS in Molecular Biology.
Religion: I am a practicing witch. I believe in many things, and I am not any one specific branch of Paganism. I am also what is termed otherkin. Otherkin is the belief that one has the spirit or soul of something other than a human being. My spiritual piece is that of a silver dragoness named SilverMoon NightWing who's portrait graces the front page of this site. I am not crazy, and I do not act any different than any other person. I am here in this life as a human and I think and act like one. There are just some aspects of my life that are influenced by my draconic side. If you are curious about this, I suggest going to such sites as and reading what some of the people there have to say. They can explain it much better than I can. This is why there are so many dragons in my gallery, they are an integral part of who I am and I adore their strength, intelligence and ferocity.

Why do you draw? I draw to express myself, and to bring in some extra income to help my family make ends meet. I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil, and my earliest memory is of drawing my mother a mural on my bedroom wall when I was about 3. I doodled in school when I was supposed to be doing my work, and got alot of practice in that fashion, with the help of some very understanding art teachers. I never took art in school, and I suspect I would be so much better if I had. Instead I was a part of the orchestra, playing violin in an ensemble for the five years I was in highschool. When I got to college, I went into the sciences instead of art, which I am beginning to regret as my life goes on. I took a hiatus from drawing due to the coursework I was getting then, and didn't really pick up drawing again until late 2002 after I graduated. Since then I've searched around the internet, and looked at the way other artists draw things to get a sense of how to do it myself. Tutorials and books are my tools still, and I am still not where I want to be with my technical skills. I have developed my own distinct style over the years, and I am pleased with it, although there are times when I look at other people's work and cringe at my own.

Tools of the trade? I use mainly colored pencils for my dry media coloring, although I would like to try markers. My preferred brand is prismacolor, as they have very rich pigment and blend well. For the graphite works I use Lumograph graphite drafting pencils. Acrylic works are done in Galleria acrylic paings. Oils are done using Windsor & Newton water mixable oil color. Digital renderings are done with photoshop and a Wacom Intuos2 graphics tablet. I have been asked for tutorials a number of times, and they will be forthcoming as time allows.

My online identity is a silver dragoness named SilverMoon NightWing. I can be found on, DragonRealms, The Gryphon's Guild, and MZDM under this nick. SilverMoon's Profile
