Last night we had our first sleet/freezing rain for the season. That's the Eeekkk! part of the post.
Fortunately, it didn't take long for it to shift back to plain ol' rain, but it inspired me to fix a big crock pot full of homemade chicken soup with fresh baked biscuts for supper tonight. The soup has been simmering for about 5 hours now and is really starting to smell good! Tha's the "yumm" part of the post.
The "hummm..." part comes from trying to figure out what to replace the two planters filled with frost killed inpatients that sit on the pedastels that flank either side of the front steps for the house. I don't really want to just leave the pedastels empty, but with winter... and the increasing possibilities of Nor'easters... fast approaching anything that replaces the summer planters is going to have to be fairly heavy so they won't wind up half way down the street when the winds kick up. I have my eye on a set of hand carved, basalt Foo Dogs, but with the holiday gift buying season right around the corner I am having a hard time justifying the $300-$400 the pair would run me. Yeah, I could go with a set of less expensive, molded concrete lions which would look nice, but they are also pretty common. The Foo Dogs would not only serve as entry way guardians, they would be unique.
Oh, well... I'll figure something out I'm sure. In the mean time, I think I'll go give the soup a stir. Have a great day!
